Wednesday 17th May saw business leaders from across Berkshire gather for the bi-annual Business Philanthropy Club (BPC) dinner. The event, which took place in the historic Old College building of the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on themes of sacrifice and discuss how businesses can make more of a difference in Berkshire.
Set up by the Berkshire Community Foundation (BCF), the BPC is a vehicle for businesses to provide effective and targeted funding to grassroots organisations and projects in their local communities. Content Guru is a Founder Member of the BPC and delivers extensive support through sponsorship, networking and marketing assistance. The company has sponsored the BPC’s bi-annual dinner since 2014.
The Spring 2017 event saw guests enjoy drinks in the Old College’s imposing reception hall, followed by a three-course dinner in the Indian Army Memorial Room. Bright evening sun illuminated stained glass windows depicting campaigns fought by the Indian Army in the two World Wars. Here the attendees heard a keynote address by former Royal Navy Commodore and Commando, Campbell Christie CBE. Christie drew on his long military experience to deliver a speech on the theme of sacrifice, and to reflect on his current role as CEO and Principal of Bracknell and Wokingham College, outlining the importance of education and the opportunities it can bring.
The dinner also provided an opportunity to welcome three new members to the BPC. Ascot Racecourse, Robert Bion and Company Ltd, and Wardour Estates Ltd have joined the growing number of Berkshire businesses committed to supporting people, organisations and communities across the Royal County.
Sean Taylor, CEO of Content Guru, said:
“Last night’s BPC dinner was a pleasure to attend and it was wonderful to see the support that local businesses provide the community. We’re extremely grateful to Campbell Christie for delivering an excellent speech, which was made even more prominent by the excellence of the military venue we were in. We look forward to the next event at Williams Engineering and hope to see new members joining us for that.”
