On Thursday March 15th 2014, Content Guru co-sponsored the latest executive dinner of Berkshire Community Foundation’s Business Philanthropy Club, with Cantley House Hotel, Wokingham, as the venue and other sponsor. The event brought together both existing and prospective members, comprising business leaders and influencers from numerous sectors throughout Berkshire.

The Rt Hon John Redwood, Member of Parliament for Wokingham, delivered the evening’s keynote speech, remarking on the economy and the crucial role the Thames Valley economic hub has played and will continue to play in the UK’s recovery.

The dinner also served as an opportunity to formally induct two of the club’s new members, with Mr. Redwood presenting membership certificates to Mary Hall and Mark Hall, representing the Hall Hunter Foundation as Trustees, and Gary Short, Managing Director of Shorts Group.

The evening’s speech focused on the role played by the Greater London economical region, extending to and beyond Berkshire, in the UK’s recovery, as well as its position as a global powerhouse. Mr. Redwood also touched on the forthcoming European elections and the issues surrounding a changing EU political landscape, as well as the possible corollaries of Scottish independence.

The Business Philanthropy Club was founded in 2013 to enable businesses with presence in Berkshire to work together raising funds and providing assistance to local communities, with particular focus on charities and voluntary organisation supporting vulnerable adults and children. The club holds several events each year, including invitation-only dinners, lunchtime seminars, fundraising panels, seeing-is-believing visits to charities and ad hoc events.

Mr. Redwood MP commented:

“I say a big thank you to the Business Philanthropy Club for raising money and backing good charities, and to all its generous members. I wish it every success in its future work, as it finds other local business people who want to be part of its network and make their own contribution.”

Sean Taylor, Managing Director of Content Guru and Trustee of Berkshire Community Foundation, commented:

“It’s been wonderful to see how the Club has continued to grow since the last executive dinner we held. We’ve seen more and more prospects become actual members, and we’re continuing to find new potential members throughout Berkshire’s business community. With every sign-up we become able to make more and more of a positive impact throughout the county, and I very much look forward to seeing how much more progress we’ve made by the time of our next major event!”
